The birth of a new baby is a momentous time in any new parents life.  Your life as you know it will no longer be the same, though it will be enhanced in so many ways you never believed possible.  From the moment that little bundle of joy is placed in your arms you know everything you have been through has been worth it.  All of a sudden there are an adundance of  "firsts".  The first smile, first tooth, first cuddle through to the first time sleeping through the night.

Babies sleep on average 17 hours a day as a newborn but rarely for longer than four hours.  You need them to sleep so you can sleep and the baby bed you choose can make a big impact on how well your baby sleeps.  Baby beds are specifically designed to meet regulatory safety standards, which ensures your baby is sleeping in the safest possible environment.

Just as important for sleep as your baby’s bed is the quality of your baby bed mattress.  You know yourself that if your mattress is not comfortable it is difficult to have a good night’s sleep.

When decking out your nursery you are now spoilt with all the choices on the market.  You will need baby bed linen and the adorable baby bed sets make designing your nursery a joy.  Nowadays you can even find baby bed mobiles which match in with your theme.

I have added a page about baby bed sleepwear because there is still a lot of misconceptions about how to dress your baby for bedtime. People still tend to overdress their baby for sleep and this can have huge ramifications.

There is also some information regarding portable baby beds which are extremely handy if you tend to go visiting with your baby.  This is one of the most useful pieces of baby equipment I ever owned and it was used often.

You will want to ensure that you give your baby the best chance of sleeping peacefully.  Don't fall into the trap of making your home environment too quiet.  Your baby is used to noise whilst in your womb and from birth they are exposed to noisy hospitals.  So many first time parents tend to tiptoe around their sleeping baby when in fact they should be doing the opposite.  I used to vacuum, have the washing machine on, played music and generally never changed the noise levels  when my baby slept.  One of the best gifts you can give both you and your baby is the skill of sleeping through any noise.

While parenting can be tough the joys far outweigh the tiredness and stress and before too long you will rediscover what it feels like to sleep for 8 hours straight.
